The morning of Thursday June 2, we drove to Chicago and settled into our Air B&B studio apartment. This is the building from the outside.
Inside our studio apartment. It was in a great location just a few blocks east to Lake Michigan and a few blocks to Wrigley Field in the other direction.
After a three year absence it was great to be back at Wrigley Field again.
We had pregame beers at Murphy's Bleachers right outside the center field wall.
It's always a special feeling walking inside and seeing the friendly confines.
Here's a panoramic view from our seats.
We were 5 rows up from the field along the left field line.
We got there early enough to watch them warm up. Here's the pitcher Kyle Hendricks stretching and his catcher #47 Miguel Montero.
David "Grandpa" Ross warming up.
Here are a few photos of Kyle Hendricks warming up in the bullpen.
Kris Brant & Addison Russell doing some leg stretches.
Kris Bryant at bat.
Anthony Rizzo at bat.
Justin Grimm & Travis Wood warming up in the bullpen.
Matt Szczur playing left field.
Anthony Rizzo rounding 3rd base after hitting a home run.
Ben Zobrist at bat.
Pedro Strop in the bullpen.
The team celebrating their 7-2 win over the Dodgers.
Friday morning we went for a walk along Lake Michigan.
The Belmont Boat Harbor.
After our walk we went back to Wrigley Field for another game. This time against the Diamondbacks.
Anthony Rizzo at bat.
Rizzo on 2nd base.
Heyward, Fowler & Bryant pow wow in center field.
We sat beside these guys R.J. & Ron, who we met while standing in line.
Dave borrowed RJ's hulk hand.
Here we are after the Cubs 6-0 win that day.
Saturday June 4th we drove up to Wisconsin.
We spent that night with Dave's college friend Al Mock and his wife Robin.
There sure were a lot of red barns with concrete silos in Wisconsin.
Sunday morning we drove to Minnesota, although you can't tell by this poor photo.
We drove into the town of Stillwater. This is the beautiful Washington County Courthouse.
We met up with our Antarctic friend Shannon. We spent the afternoon exploring the town and checking out the local art show on the banks of the St. Croix River.
We spent that night at Shannon & Tom's place. Unfortunately Tom was gone on a fishing trip. This isn't their house, it's Tom's sweet looking shop.
Monday morning we battled Minneapolis traffic before we made our way to South Dakota.
Tuesday morning we started out the day with a drive through Badlands National Park.
Here are probably way too many photos of the Badlands.
Kelly on a trail.
We spotted a couple of Bighorn Sheep coming down this slope.
They came right down by our car...
...So we could get a nice butt shot of them on the road.
It took longer for us to park than the amount of time we spent looking at the monument, but Kelly got to cross Mt. Rushmore off his list
Mt. Rushmore selfie
The Crazyhorse monument.
That evening we spent the night in Casper, WY where we found there was a hollywood crew filming two Christmas commercials for Wells Fargo.
The premise is this young girl and the cowboy starring into a snow globe and then it begins to snow like they are in the globe....or something like that.
Here's the playbill for the commercial posted outside the local theatre. The first two names listed are Wells and Fargo.
Here's the stagecoach going past the theatre.
The stagecoach turns the corner and makes it's way down to the little girl and cowboy.
Wednesday morning we drove back into the beauty of Utah.
We had lunch in Park City with Antarctic friend Rich.
We made it back home on Thursday afternoon after driving a total of 5,769 miles. We were very happy to have averaged better than 30 mpg for the trip.
