An Unexpected Trip To Indiana

Although we did a post to the blog of our trip to Puerto Vallarta in April there was more going on during our trip than just enjoying some time in the sun.  We found out back in February that our good friend Brad Gilbert was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and he started chemo and radiation shortly there after.

We got a text from Brad's wife Cindy two days before leaving for Mexico that he had been admitted to the hospital and was very sick with what they found out was Diabetic Ketoacidosis.  After a week in the hospital he was told he had two weeks to two months to live, so Dave flew back to Indiana after a week in PV to help out with Brad's care.  He was released from the hospital under Hospice care the day Dave arrived.

During 10 of the next 11 weeks, Dave spent his weekdays staying with Brad while Cindy went to work.  Brad's blood sugar was kept under control with diet and insulin and he eventually started getting better.  He has made it well past the two month timeline and although he does have his bad days, he's still with us.

John Keller drove out from PA for a weekend visit to see Brad.
