Our Trip to Chicago

Thursday May 30th we drove to Chicago to spend two nights.  We had tickets to a Cubs game the following day, however we got to the city early enough that we had time to catch a game that day as well.   We went down to Murphy's Bleachers and had a few beers while we watched to see what the weather was going to do.  We eventually decided to buy some 1/2 priced scalped tickets and went to the game since we had never seen them play their crosstown rivals the White Sox before.

We were treated to a Cubs win and a grand slam home run by the pitcher Travis Wood.

It was a cloudy day at Wrigley Field with storms all around the area, but we never even got rained on.

Paul Konerko playing first base and Ryan Sweeney after getting a single.

Starlin Castro on deck.

Ryan Sweeney in center, Darwin Barney at second and Kevin Gregg pitching for the save.

Post game high fives.

After the 8-3 win and a sweep of the series, the team posed for a photo with the Crosstown Cup.

Friday morning we went for an early morning walk along the Lakefront Trail.  We started the walk here at the Belmont Harbor near our studio apartment in Lake View.

At 11:00 we met friends Robin, Lisa & Randy Thompson at Murphy's Bleachers for some pregame beers

We also met our friend Melanie Miller who works with us at McMurdo.  Here's Kelly, Dave, Melanie, Robin, Lisa & Randy.

On Friday the Cubs played the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Here's Cody Ransom playing 3rd base.

Starlin Castro playing shortstop & Darwin Barney playing 2nd base.

Anthony Rizzo on 2nd base after hitting a double.

David DeJesus gives Scott Hairston a pat on the bum for hitting a grand slam home run in his previous at bat.

We sat right behind the Cubs bullpen down the left field line, which gave us a great chance to see the Cubs relief pitchers up close.  Here's James Russell.

At the end of every win they play the song "Go Cubs Go" written and performed by Steve Goodman.  Here's a video of the fans, Kelly & Melanie as we sing along.  The Cubs won this one 7-2.

Here's Kelly, Melanie and Dave after the game.
