Cargo Party

Last weekend our department had a party in our cargo bay. We had grilled steaks, chicken, pork loin, baked beans, salads and a plethora of other goodies. It was a great opportunity to get to know some of the new folks in our department.
We have over 80 people in our department. Some are shuttles drivers, some building cargo and dealing with the planes like Kelly & I. Others handle tracking the passengers, certifying hazardous goods, packing scientific cargo for the flights and a variety of other things.

Here are some photos from the party with both old friends and new. We had an enjoyable night of eating, dancing and visiting.

Pictures from the flight to Antarctica

Christine, Danielle, Kelly and Dave.
Dave and I have had a busy week. The weather has been both good, and bad with strong winds and blowing snow. We have added 18 people to our department this week so a lot of training has been going on for the new folks. We have several kinds of loaders, trucks, and deltas. Along with safety training to cover with them all.

Heading to McMurdo Station, Antarctica

October 2nd, and here we go. Dave and I got dressed in the proper cold weather gear for the 5 hour flight from Christchurch to McMurdo. We had a great flight and arrived to beautiful weather. But all good things come to a end. By Saturday October 6th the weather had turned really cold and windy. I was outside much of the day and Dave came with the crew to the airfield to help download and upload the C17. With the wind chill we reached -70 degrees below zero, it was brutal.
